TruckDispatch

Summary
TruckDispatch is a logistics and freight-management platform designed to connect shippers with verified transporters and simplify the process of managing cargo transportation.
As the Product/UI/UX Designer, I worked on translating complex logistics workflows into clear and usable digital experiences. My role involved understanding user needs, structuring workflows, designing interfaces, and improving the overall usability and consistency of the platform across its key experiences.

Problem statement
Managing freight transportation involves multiple stakeholders, including shippers, transporters, drivers, and transport companies. This creates complex workflows around cargo, transportation, communication, and operational management.
The challenge was to design an experience that could simplify these processes while giving different users clear access to the information and actions relevant to their role.

Objective
My objective was to create a simple, structured, and scalable product experience that would:
Simplify key transportation workflows.
Make important information easier to understand and access.
Reduce unnecessary steps within user journeys.
Create consistency across the platform.
Design a foundation that could scale as more logistics features were introduced.

Solution
I approached the product by breaking down complex logistics processes into smaller, understandable user flows.
I mapped the core journeys, organised information according to user priorities, and translated these flows into wireframes and high-fidelity UI designs. I also focused on clear navigation, structured dashboards, reusable components, responsive layouts, and consistent interaction patterns.
The resulting designs provided a clearer way for users to navigate the platform and manage their transportation-related activities.

My Findings
Through my research and design exploration, I found that logistics products can quickly become overwhelming when too much operational information is presented at once.
My key findings were:
Different users require different levels of information and functionality.
Complex logistics workflows need to be broken into clear steps.
Dashboard information needs strong hierarchy and prioritisation.
Consistency across components reduces cognitive load.
Designing for scalability is important because logistics operations involve many interconnected processes.

My Next Steps
My next steps would be to validate the designed workflows with real users across the different TruckDispatch user groups.
I would focus on usability testing, analysing task completion and user feedback, identifying friction points, and iterating on the experience. I would also continue expanding the design system and refining the platform as new transportation and operational requirements are introduced.

Impacts and Takeaways
The project strengthened the foundation for a more structured and user-centred logistics platform, while helping translate complex transportation operations into simpler digital workflows.
For me, the project reinforced the importance of designing beyond individual screens. Working on TruckDispatch required understanding how different users, workflows, and operational requirements connect together.
My biggest takeaway was that effective product design in logistics is about finding the right balance between complex functionality and simplicity—giving users the information they need without making the experience unnecessarily complicated.
